Hello

Welcome

Whelan Organic Farms’ purpose is to bring organic nutrient-dense foods to Canadians.

The production of nutrient-dense foods is made possible through soil management and regeneration. We achieve this through a four-part process

Alternate Plants

Alternate Plants

Constantly removing cash crops from the land eventually creates shortages of various minerals required for healthy nutrient-dense crops. The Albrecht system starts with soil testing and involves the addition of organic minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, to balance the soil. When required, it also includes the addition of minerals, such as Phosphorous, Sulphur, Zinc, Copper, Boron etc. These minerals are added to the soil to help move it closer to its original mineral spectrum, and to increase the flora and fauna in the rhizosphere, thus producing a thriving ecosystem in the soil, which in turn produces nutrient-dense foods for animal and human consumption.

Mycelium Network

Alternate Plants

Alternate Plants

The network of fungal threads that develop underground is a form of mycorrhizal fungi, that connects most living plants below the rhizosphere. The mycelium network develops every spring, as long as the soil remains undisturbed and no chemicals are put down.

Rhizosphere

Alternate Plants

Rhizosphere

The 2-3 inches from the top of

the soil down. If the Calcium-Magnesium ratio is balanced it contains air holes, water holes, worms, nematodes, beneficial bacteria and viruses and many other forms of life. This is where all the magic occurs. While some plants do have deep tap roots, the majority of cash crop roots are in the top 2-3 inches of the soil. The mycorrhizal fungi network attaches to the bottom of the root network, thus expanding the whole root system or rhizosphere.
